Amongst the various use cases of Ethereum blockchain, who would have thought the decentralized application (dApp) could be utilized to lure citizens to clean beaches. Residents of Manila, the Philippines, will be rewarded Ethereum (ETH) for cleaning up a heavily polluted beach in the capital city of the nation.
Dubbed as “Bounties for the Ocean,” ConsenSys the largest blockchain software development firm in the world and Bounties Network, a dApp on Ethereum, have collaborated for the venture. Joseph Lubin, an Ethereum co-creator and the CEO of ConsenSys said in a Tweet:
“In Manila, participants will be paid in ETH for spending a few hours cleaning up one of the most heavily polluted beaches in the world. Bounties Network and ConsenSys Impact are proving a new model where people fund causes directly without intermediaries.”
