FC Barcelona, one of the most popular soccer clubs in the world, is launching next Monday a crypto token on two fan-engagement platforms, Chiliz.net & Socios.com.
The $BAR token will be initially distributed via a “Fan Token Offering (FTO),” priced at €2, and the flash sale will begin at 1:00 pm on June 22 and will last until June 24.

Fans will be offered 1 million $BAR, which will be sold on a first come, first served basis, and most of the proceeds will go to the club.
The tokens will let holders vote on a variety of decisions about the team such as what music to play in the stadium when the team scores a goal.
To get the Barca coins for a fixed price, bidders can download the Socios.com app, buy the app’s native coins, known as Chiliz, and then use them to buy the team’s $BAR tokens.
“As well as giving fans the right to vote on different topics, the platform will reward fans for engaging with the Club. Fans will be rewarded for every different action taken on the platform, climbing up leaderboards and receiving reward points which can be exchanged for exclusive merchandise and unique once-in-a-lifetime experiences linked to Barça,” the club said in a statement.
Chiliz and Sorare brokered token sales with other soccer teams
FC Barcelona joins a growing list of well-known European clubs who have chosen Sorare to offer rare digitally collectible “cards” that are linked to the real-life performances of their players. The Paris-based company expands its presence with one of Europe’s football giants while also maintaining similar partnerships with AS Roma, Schalke, West Ham United, Napoli, among others.
Italian football club Juventus also partnered with blockchain gaming company Sorare to enable fans to acquire tokenized digital collectible cards of its world-famous players such as Cristiano Ronaldo.
Founded in 2018, Sorare is an agnostic platform that is backed by well-known names in the crypto space such as ConsenSys and Ubisoft. Sorare relies on the Ethereum blockchain to allow users to collect player cards from their favorite soccer teams, trade them, and play with them in its gaming arena.
Its unique offering, which is similar to regular football fantasy leagues, has made it the first licensed crypto company to distribute cryptocards of football players. The startup has attracted several thousands of auctions, with a percentage going to their partners of football clubs and leagues.
To ensure each player card cannot be copied, digital cards available on Sorare are non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that represent football players, thus securing users’ experiences.
Chiliz also has brokered similar token sales with other soccer teams such as Juventus ($JUV), Galatasaray ($GAL), Paris Saint-Germain ($PSG) and OG ($OG).
