According to a recent media report, the Dubai Department of Economic Development, Dubai Economy, has announced its decision to move to a blockchain powered unified business registry platform (UBRP). The platform will support the improvement of the city’s current regulation model, as well as an easy way for firms to conduct business in Dubai.
The CEO of the Corporate Support Services sector of Dubai Economy, Abdullah Hassan, has said that the department is constantly looking for new ways to deploy smart solutions which will ensure effectiveness and efficiency of the government, as well as support its UAE Vision 2021. According to Hassan:
“Dubai Economy is moving to the next level of its digital transformation with the Unified Business Registry Platform and we are proud to be in the forefront of Dubai’s march to being the world’s first blockchain powered government.”
The UBRP will be hosted on a platform called Dubai Pulse, a Blockchain Platform as a Service (BPaaS), which is a product of a partnership between Smart Dubai – a project focused on making Dubai as much of a smart city as possible – and du – an Emirates integrated telecommunications company .
The government of the UAE, per its UAE Vision 2021, has set a target for the same year, for at least half of all its transactions, to be conducted using blockchain.
