Major blockchain consortium Hyperledger has onboarded American multinational retail market chain Walmart, as a new member. In a recent press release, Hyperledger announced that eight new members joined the platform.

The announcement says the new members also include Tokenation, Joisto Group, Conduent, Clear, Aiou Technology and others. The announcement was made on the first day of the Hyperledger Global Forum 2020

Speaking on the new development, Hyperledger Executive Director Brian Behlendorf says that the announcement and addition is “a great opening act” for the forum. He goes on to describe the platform as one that supports diversity and tries to pull in interested players to move the industry forward.

Walmart Global Tech Vice President Sanjay Radhakrishnan has also expressed Walmart’s readiness to get on board with blockchain technology and all of its offerings. According to him:

“Walmart is excited to participate in Open Source communities, coming together to create scalable and adaptable technology. We’ve seen strong results through our various deployments of blockchain, and believe staying involved in open source communities will further transform the future of our business.”

Walmart is no stranger to blockchain technology. Previously, it partnered with IBM to adopt blockchain technology as a way to ensure that its suppliers comply with food safety requirements.
