Per the report from Times of India, the turnout of voters for last year’s election was quite poor. Of the 900 million registered voters in India, 300 million could not cast votes, with a majority of them unable to, because they weren’t where they registered.
The report also says that the number of Indians who move around the country for several reasons such as marriage or jobs is more than 450 million. Because the move usually isn’t permanent, these migrants are reluctant to begin the registration process again.
Last year, some engineering students in India developed an online blockchain voting platform because they wanted to solve problems of long queues at polling booths.
